Summer 2024 Camps

Children should be outside during the summer. The long, warm days are perfect for outdoor exploration along with fun and games with friends. Wild About Nature provides a safe, nurturing environment for your child to explore, grow, and make the most out of their summer break. Our groups are kept small so that children have meaningful interactions with fellow campers and counselors. All of our staff go through a rigorous week of training and have prior experience working with children.

A Typical Day at Wild About Nature at Camp Denison…

A typical camp day will be spent exploring the pond, forests, and streams that make up Camp Denison. Morning sessions focus on a specific aspect of the week’s theme and involve hands-on investigations and activities. Afternoons are a little more relaxed. Campers can choose from a range of games and activities that might include building a bird feeder, playing Capture the Flag, creating debris shelters, or participating in our always popular shenana-ponding. While the Town of Georgetown does not permit swimming at Camp Denison, campers are allowed to splash in the sandy shallows of Baldpate Pond and dunk their heads to cool off. We finish the day with a closing circle around a campfire and share what we learned, saw, or made us laugh during the day.

Our campers are split into groups by age: Explorers (6-8 years old), Pioneers (9-11 years old), and Navigators (12-14). Each group embarks on their separate journey to begin each day, and Explorers and Pioneers enjoy lunch and afternoon activities together. Our staff is always alert to make sure all interactions are age appropriate and that all children are having fun. In the past, we have found that the older campers take on an important mentoring role for our younger campers and get them excited about the camp adventures they’ll take when they get older.

Our Navigators spend their day largely separate from the younger campers, exploring deep into the woods while participating in more challenging activities such as advanced woodcrafting, canoeing, mountain biking, and team-building activities.

Wild About the North Shore

NSNP is excited to announce that we have partnered with three community organizations to provide camp in exciting new locations!

This summer we will offer summer camp programs in Hamilton, Topsfield, and Essex. While the locations may be new, the nature-based programming and caring staff will remain the same. In Hamilton, we will roam the fields, forests, and riverfront of the Patton Homestead where we expect to find salamanders, frogs, and insects. At Hood’s Pond in Topsfield, campers will explore the woods in the morning and spend the afternoons swimming under the supervision of Hood’s Pond lifeguards, and in Essex we will explore the salt marsh and tidal flats of the Essex River!

We will offer a few weeks for our Explorers (rising 1st-3rd graders) and Pioneers (rising 4th-6th graders) at each location this summer so secure your spot today! While each group will embark on their separate journey to begin each day, all campers will enjoy lunch and afternoon activities together. Our staff is always alert to make sure camper interactions are age appropriate and that all children are having fun.
